Villarreal coach Marcelino: Victory over Sevilla keeps Euro hopes alive

Villarreal coach Marcelino was delighted with their win against Sevilla.

Alexander Sorloth struck an injury-time winner for the 3-2 victory.

Marcelino said: "At the time I said that by conceding three goals per game we were going to suffer to maintain the category. But we have improved and that leads us to be a very good team in the second round.

"I never had the slightest doubt that that we were going to maintain ourselves. As a team we improved, and that together with the individual improvement, does not lead to being a good team. Today we conceded little to the opponent, but we are still satisfied with this game after losing in Vigo, after leaving us.

"Europe is very difficult because there are only nine points left, but we have to continue winning. Our rivals have been on top throughout the year, and that says that they are consistent and we have not been. We will continue fighting and we have two rivals from a lot of entity like Girona and Real Madrid, the champion. But now we can compete with anyone."
